The first arrow I released as a Traditional Bowhunter never should have been released. Its not that the shot angle was bad, or the deer was out of range: It was all about I didn't believe.

If you don't believe that you can do something you'll never be able to do it. True belief comes from knowing, but at some point belief has to become a educated guess...That's especially true in Barebow Hunting. Once the mechanics are ingrained into your muscle memory Traditional Bowhunting is completely a metaphysical contest that takes place within your mind. Until you master your mind there will always be doubt. Here are three ways to gain the confidence before you have the spend the years hoping your arrows will fly true when you finally get into range of that bull or buck.

1. Mentors paid or not. Tradition Speaks of handing down knowledge, and nothing builds confidence faster than a mentors help. They have been there and done that. They know the frustration and doubt. They have...

I'm probably going to catch some flack for this, but it needs to be said. All hunters are Trophy hunters. Of course the Trophies are all different, but we all hunt for a different purpose than just gathering meat. If  you are honest with yourself, if it was just about meat you would be way better off  to go down to the local farmers market and  purchase some grass fed, organic beef, elk, or bison. Websters defines a trophy as : something gained or given in victory or conquest especially when preserved or mounted as a memorial.

This blog post is actually just a continued conversation that seems to be popular right now in the American hunting culture...for a lack of a better definition... I'll just refer to it as the Meat Only Movement. I have been hunting all of my life, and I have seen different ideas come and go about what we do, but I am really concerned about everyone jumping on the "Meat Only" band wagon as if we haunters have to justify our actio...

To some the Blacktail Deer is the ultimate animal, there whole season revolves around this elusive creature. For me ... I am just happy to have a few encounters. If I am able to fool a wily old blacktail buck in the daylight its a huge win for me. This season I set out to film my adventure in the blacktail woods, and if I was lucky, show you all a mature buck. That 3 part video series will air tomorrow at 6:00 pm pacific standard time so if you haven't subscribed to my channel (linked below) hit subscribe and click the bell to be notified when new videos come out. Now that the shameless plug is out of the way, lets jump into the 3 things I learned about blacktails this season.

Our YouTube Channel

1. They are not Elk! A big ole buck and an big ole bull have nothing in common. Blacktail bucks make their living by not vocally advertizing themselves. Elk, on the other hand assert their dominance vocally. This is a huge frustration for seasoned elk hunters when...

As the western hunting starts to wind down and we have time to assess our gear I thought it would be a great time to talk about backpacks. Our group uses several different sizes and configurations for different terrain, duration in the back country, and gear we carry. The Backpack, outside of arrow setup, is the piece of equipment that I am most asked about. Your pack choice is completely dictated by the intended use, so I will explain why we choose what we choose with the following categories. 1. Multi-day Hunts over three days 2. Weekend excursions 3. Day hunts. Of course uses and severity of adventure blur these lines, but this article will help you personalize your choice to your uses.

1. Multi-day Hunts over three days require a large pack 4000 cu or larger, and expandable. We have found the bulk of our gear is food for these back country extended trips.

Just 5 days worth of food would take up most of the space in a smaller pack. We also pack for weather during our elk season as we...

One of the great things that the #barebowculture has done is introduced me to a diverse group of archers. Some like longbows, some recurves. Some like the precision of the aluminum ILF bows and others like a twisted self bow, but we all hold one thing in common...the magic of a smooth draw, solid anchor, and clean release. These pieces of archery transcend time, and almost become eternal as their mastery exist in the metaphysical half of humans. A subconscious ability that’s as old as humanity itself. As archers today put these ancient arts into practice we step into the linkage of thousands of years.

Barebow Hunters exist to bridge new comers to the #barebowculture with the Lineage and Lore that has existed for thousands of years. You, as a Barebow Archer are a part of this and have something to share. We, at Barebow Hunters, believe in providing the forums to facilitate this type of interaction, wither through the Facebook group, the forum on this website, our podcast, or the Youtube...

Hello all, I have just started a new forum for those who love the Traditional Bowhunting Lifestyle. This forum fills the void between traditional Internet forums and social media. It’s like our Facebook group, but the post won’t get lost in the feed here. I will also be active in the Forums to make sure all the great things about the Facebook group will be assimilated here.

  • Treat others as you wanted to be treated

  • no cussing

  • help rather than ridicule

The Barebow Hunters Community is a good one, please use these forums to emulate the #barebowhuntersculture. This has been going on for thousands of years. Bowman (that means women to) have been passing on, discussing and sharing their lifestyles with others since the first stave was bent, this forum is just an 2018 extension of that....it’s where tradition and progression meet. Enjoy

There are a ton of people wanting to learn how to hunt with the simple stick and string, but with all the variables out there it looks like a daunting task. The Barebow Hunters Lifestyle can be as complex or as simple as you make it.

I’m going to start a YouTube series for those of you who want to keep it simple, but just because My philosophy about hunting with the Barebow is simple it doesn’t make it easy. Follow along as I break down the complex physics of the simple weapon, to a condensed K.I.S.S style method of how to approach our lifestyle. Here are some videos that will get you excited for the series. Barebow Hunters Channel
